Dwolla (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and earning your trust. This policy discloses our privacy practices for personal information you provide to us on our Web site www.dwolla.com. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information. It is our intent to give you as much control as reasonably practicable over your privacy and personal information and the use we make of it in our business. We may, in our sole discretion, change this policy from time to time by posting a revised version on our web site www.dwolla.com ("Dwolla") or otherwise publicly disseminating it, so please check back from time to time.
What kinds of personal information does Dwolla collect?
In general, you can visit Dwolla on the Web without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself. The more information you volunteer (and the more accurate it is), the better we are able to customize your experience. We ask for information from you in several ways from different parts of the Dwolla Site and also as part of providing our products and services.
If you open a Dwolla account or use Dwolla Services, we may collect the following types of information:
- We ask for personal information when you become a registered user of the Dwolla, use our products or services. For example, such information might include:
- Contact information, such as your name, address, phone, email, and other similar information.
- Financial information, such as the full bank account numbers and/or credit card number that you link to your Dwolla account or give us when you use Dwolla Services.
- Detailed personal information such as your date of birth or social security number.
- We may also obtain information about you from third parties such as credit bureaus and identity verification services.
- We request personal information from you when you apply for a job. Such information includes name, address, email address, phone number, Dwolla ID, and your resume.
- If you are a developer and would like to create your own Dwolla application we will ask that you verify your pin, provide the application name, website, callback URL for authorizations, paybacks, and payment redirects, as well as the reason for the application. We will also ask you to set permissions.
- We ask for personal information from you during the course of discussing or providing our products and services.
- In the course of using our site, we automatically track certain information about you. This information includes what type of browser you are using, as well as the URL that you just came from and the next URL you go to, regardless of whether these URLs are on our Web site or not. It also includes your IP address. Dwolla uses this information to, among other things, identify broad demographic trends.
- We ask for personal information when you enter a contest, sweepstakes, or other promotion sponsored by Dwolla or its partners.
- We also monitor customer traffic patterns and site usage to help us refine and improve the design and layout of our Dwolla Site and the user experience.
- If you send us personal correspondence, such as e-mails or letters, we may keep a record of that correspondence. We also periodically ask users for feedback that we use to improve our service and products and add new features. If you respond to these requests, we may keep a record of your response.
- We also collect IP addresses for system administration purposes.
- In order to help protect you from fraud and misuse of your personal information, we may collect information about your use and interaction with our website or Dwolla Services. For example, we may evaluate your computer, mobile phone or other access device to identify any malicious software or activity.
- We allow you to import your Facebook or other social networking friends list so that you may request a payment or send a payment to your friend. We will not use this information for any other purpose other than to fulfill your request. You may at any time disconnect your account from your Dwolla account by going into your Account Settings, we will not obtain that information for any purpose. We collect the email address and password for the account you wish to import your contacts from and will only use it for that purpose.
- You have the ability to add a photo to your Dwolla profile, if you wish to do so please be aware that other users of the Dwolla service may be able to view your photo. At any time you may remove your photo or change it by logging into your account and clicking on your photo.
How does Dwolla use my information?
We collect personal information to:
- provide Dwolla services by allowing you to add accounts, withdraw money, send or request money to and from other users.
- Allow you to view statements, set up recurring payments, and view your payment activity
- provide customer support
- process transactions
- resolve disputes
- collect fees
- Identify, prevent, and report potentially prohibited or illegal activities.
- Determine whether or not you are qualified for a job that you applied for and use your information to contact you regarding setting up an interview.
- Provide you with an API Key so that you can use the Dwolla application.
- give you a customized experience and to help Dwolla understand its customers and prospective customers better. Dwolla does not currently sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others.
- contact you at your telephone number by voice or SMS to validate an account or transaction, if you no longer wish to receive SMS you may opt-out from receiving them at any time by either replying with “STOP” or by contacting us at email@example.com.
- provide you with up-to-date information about Dwolla products and services.
- collect to notify you from time to time about important functionality changes to the Web site, new Dwolla services and products, and special offers and events we think you may find valuable.
- Contact you when you receive money, when a connection joins Dwolla, or when a place you’ve wanted starts accepting Dwolla.
- We also research our users' demographics, interests, and behavior based on the information you give us and the information we collect.
- We compile and analyze personal information on an aggregate or anonymous basis to model industry trends, do market analysis, and to publish industry research papers identifying trends in the marketplace. Such industry research papers contain aggregate and anonymous data only, and do not contain any personal information that can be used to identify you.
We do not access or use the personal information you store on our servers, except to provide such services, to provide support in connection with such services, to test, troubleshoot and improve our products and services, or as otherwise authorized or requested by you.
You can unsubscribe from receiving any advertisements or newsletters by sending an email with "REMOVE" in the subject line to: firstname.lastname@example.org or by following the unsubscribe link located at the bottom of each communication.
If you choose to use our referral service to tell a friend about our site, we will ask you for your friend’s name and email address. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting him or her to visit the site. Dwolla stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and tracking the success of our referral program.
Your friend may contact us at email@example.com to request that we remove this information from our database.
Social Media (Features) and Widgets
Our Web site offers publicly accessible blogs or community forums. To access these areas of the site you must create an account on our third party service provider’s site. You should be aware that any information you provide in these areas may be read, collected, and used by others who access them. To request removal of your personal information from our blog or community forum, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org . In some cases, we may not be able to remove your personal information, in which case we will let you know if we are unable to do so and why.
Facebook Connect or other OpenID provider
You can log in to our site using sign-in services such as Facebook Connect or an Open ID provider. These services will authenticate your identity and provide you the option to share certain personal information with us such as your name and email address to pre-populate our sign up form. Services like Facebook Connect give you the option to post information about your activities on this Web site to your profile page to share with others within your network.
Who collects information?
When you supply personal information to Dwolla or on a Dwolla Site, you share that information only with Dwolla unless you are specifically informed otherwise. If a company other than Dwolla is gathering or maintaining your personal data from Dwolla you will be told before it is collected or transferred. You can always choose not to share the information. If you decide to share this information and choose later to opt-out you may do so by contacting us at email@example.com or by contacting that third party directly.
When companies other than Dwolla sponsor promotions, data collected on the Dwolla site in connection with these promotions may be shared with the sponsor. Once again, if this is the case, you will be notified before the data is collected or transferred, and you can decide not to participate.
Does Dwolla share my information?
Other than as stated in this policy, Dwolla does not disclose or sell any of your personal information to third parties without your permission. Read the following sections to learn more.

Do I have a choice about how my information is gathered, used and distributed?
Yes. When you log in or register with Dwolla, you can choose to receive newsletters, information, and e-mails from Dwolla. If you change your mind, you can simply update your account information on our Web site so that the information will not be sent or follow the unsubscribe link located at the bottom of each communication. It's your choice.
Some of our promotions may request your e-mail address so that you can receive periodic updates about the status of the promotion. When you participate in these types of promotions, you will automatically receive promotion-related e-mail; however, you can choose the no-e-mail option that some promotions offer or opt-out by following the unsubscribe link located at the bottom of each communication. Occasionally these promotion-related e-mail messages may include targeted advertisements.
What security precautions does Dwolla take to protect me?
We have security measures in place to protect your personal information, including the use of industry-standard encryption technology and internal policies and restrictions regarding the storage of and access to your personal information.
Your Dwolla account information and profile are encrypted and password protected so that you are the only one who has access to your personal information. You can edit your account information and profile by using your logon name and password. We recommend that you follow these guidelines to protect yourself:
- Do not tell anyone your password. If your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately change your password.
- Do not respond to unsolicited e-mail by giving your password, even if the e-mail claims to be from us. Dwolla will never ask you for your password in this way.
- When you are done using the Dwolla site, sign out of your account and close your browser window.
No data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Although we are committed to protecting your personal information, Dwolla cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you send to us or from our online services. Providing personal information to Dwolla is done at your own risk.
When you enter sensitive information on our forms, we encrypt the transmission of that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL).
What are cookies and how does Dwolla use them?
- Locate your name and account information when you log in to our Web site so that you can access your account information. When you log in, the cookie is set, and when you sign-out, the cookie is modified.

Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs)
We employ or our third party tracking utility partner employs a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. Web Beacons/Web Bugs), that help us better manage content on our site by informing us what content is effective. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of Web users. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on Web pages and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. We do not tie the information gathered by clear gifs to our customers’ personally identifiable information.
How do I update my Information?
If your personal information changes, or if you no longer desire our service, you may correct, delete inaccuracies, amend or remove it by making the change within your account or by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will respond to your access request within 30 days.
We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you wish to cancel your account or request that we no longer use your information to provide you services contact us at email@example.com. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
What about the privacy of children?
Dwolla is a general audience Web site. Dwolla does not knowingly collect any personal information fromanyone under the age of 13.
We may update this privacy statement to reflect changes to our information practices. If we make any material changes we will notify you by email (sent to the e-mail address specified in your account) or by means of a notice on this Site prior to the change becoming effective.
